How to set up Snow Kite
Video Guide: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUfQO1YjntE/
Step 1: Unravel kite
Step 2: Take some excess line off bar. Roughly 2m past bridals. Put elastic strap back on bar to secure line and prevent tangles. Gently throw bar off the trailing edge of kite.
*if bar goes through bridals you will have a bad tangle.
Step 3: Fluff kite like a bedsheet. The kite will flag directly downwind. Using the kite, give the bar a pull to pull out line twists.
Step 4: Bury the upwind wingtip. Fold the wingtip before burying to prevent snow from entering the cells of kite.
Step 5: Sort bridals. If youโve packed your kite carefully this should mean untwisting only. Spread the power and control lines to visibly inspect they are clear.
*if something is wrong, take kite off lines. Walk lines and untangle bridals. Start with the yellow bridal to make life easy. Grab it at the kite and work your way to the pig tails.
Ready to Launch?
Step 6: Walk straight upwind with the bar. Having the kite straight downwind for launch.
Step 7: Hook in with chicken loop and safety leash.
Step 8: Point your skiโs / snowboard downwind.
Step 9: Gently pull middle lines to pop your kite in the air. Keep bar out to avoid stalling kite or launching kite with too much power (wind dependent). Focus on bar tension. You want to feel a small amount of bar tension to ensure youโre in control of the kite. Expect a small pull forward.
Step 10: Fly your kite to noon. Untwist your bar if necessary. Visually inspect your kite in the air.
Something snagged? A wingtip not fully open? Fly your kite to noon. Grab both control lines (above bar) and stall your kite to the ground. This will open both wingtips.
Uncomfortable during launch? Hit your safety release and flag out kite. No big deal. Practice makes perfect.
Deep powder? All steps can be done with skiโs on.
